WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY – ‘LIGHT IT UP BLUE'
April 02, 2014
Federal Labor today joins people all over the world to show support for World Autism Awareness Day.
Today is an opportunity to ‘Light It Up Blue' to raise community awareness and show support for people with autism, their families and carers.
Labor knows that providing support for children with autism as early as possible can make a huge difference to their development and lifelong learning.
Early intervention and support leads to better preparation for school and everyday life, and helps people reach their full potential.
That is why, when in government, Labor provided more than $350 million to help around 31,000 children with disability get early intervention support, such as speech pathology, physiotherapy and audiology, through the Helping Children with Autism and Better Start for Children with Disability programs.
Labor also introduced the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), so that people with disability, their families and carers can finally get the support they so desperately need.
