TWO YEARS OF ABBOTT’S LIES TO PENSIONERS
September 07, 2015
Today marks two years since Tony Abbott promised on election eve:
“We’re not going to reduce pensions…”
TONY ABBOTT – 3AW – 6 SEPTEMBER 2013
“No change to pensions…”
TONY ABBOTT – SBS – 6 SEPTEMBER 2013
Australian pensioners know that Mr Abbott lied to them.
In his first year in Government Mr Abbott tried to cut pension indexation, a cut that would see an $80 week cut to the pension over the next ten years.
Labor defeated him. But he didn’t get the message.
In his second year, he did a deal with the Greens to cut the Age Pension to around 330,000 pensioners.
Because of this cut, some single pensioners will lose $8,000. Some couples will lose $14,000.
He still wants to increase the pension age to 70, meaning that Australia would have the oldest pension age in the developed world.
He lied to pensioners before the election.
He lied to pensioners after the election.
In his acceptance speech on election night Mr Abbott told Australians that he would lead a Government that:
“Is competent, that is trustworthy, and which purposefully and steadfastly and methodically sets about delivering on our commitments.”
TONY ABBOTT – SPEECH – 7 SEPTEMBER 2013
On every single measure Tony Abbott has been a failure.
The Abbott Liberal Government has failed Australian pensioners.
After two years of Tony, Australian pensioners are paying the price for this government’s cuts and broken promises.
Pensioners can’t afford another three years of Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey’s Liberals.
