TURNBULL’S PLAN TO INCREASE PENSION AGE TO 70 WILL COST AUSTRALIANS $3.6 BILLION

June 05, 2017

The cost to Australians of Malcolm Turnbull’s plan to increase the pension age to 70 has been revealed - $3.6 billion between 2025-29.

That’s $3.6 billion that will be coming from the pockets of ordinary Australians.

Malcolm Turnbull and the Liberals want to make Australians born after 1 January 1966 to wait until they’re 70 before they can get the Age Pension.

How does Mr Turnbull expect construction workers, miners, nurses and farmers to work until they’re 70? He’s completely out of touch.

Mr Turnbull likes to pretend that he’s gotten rid of unfair cuts from the 2014 Budget but some of them are still lurking on the books including the plan to increase the pension age to 70.

If Malcolm Turnbull gets his way he will give Australians the oldest pension age in the developed world.

It’s time for Malcolm Turnbull to scrap his unfair plan to make Australians work until they’re 70.

Labor will continue to oppose this unfair measure just as we have since the 2014 Budget.
