TURNBULL’S PAID PARENTAL LEAVE CON - 80,000 NEW MUMS STILL WORSE OFF

February 12, 2016

Malcolm Turnbull’s supposed ‘compromise’ on paid parental leave has been exposed as a complete con at Senate Estimates.

Around 80,000 new mums will still be worse off  - the same number of mums that would have been worse off under Tony Abbott’s original plan announced in last year’s Budget.

Mr Turnbull’s cuts to paid parental leave still mean around 80,000 new mums will be forced to live on less, and spend less time at home with their newborn babies during those precious early months.

Malcolm Turnbull and the Liberals are still treating new mums like they did in last year’s budget, when Scott Morrison and Joe Hockey labelled them rorters and double-dippers.

In the 2015 Budget, the Abbott-Turnbull Government made savage cuts to 80,000 new mothers accusing them of "double dipping" by accessing both employer and government parental leave schemes.

Then in last year’s MYEFO the Government announced a ‘compromise’ plan.

Now we find out at Senate Estimates that Mr Turnbull’s so called ‘compromise’ plan still leaves about 80,000 mums worse off.

This is yet more proof that Malcolm Turnbull says one thing but does another.

He says he believes in fairness - then he cuts paid parental leave to thousands of new mums.

Only Labor will stand up for new parents against Mr Turnbull’s cuts to paid parental leave.

Only Labor puts people first.
