TURNBULL GOVERNMENT VOTES TO CUT SUPPORT TO 3 MILLION CHILDREN …AGAIN

February 10, 2016

The Turnbull Government has once again voted to cut support to three million children.

This is the second time that the Turnbull Government has voted to cut family tax benefits to low and middle income families – cuts that will hurt Australian children.

The cost of living keeps going up – but Mr Turnbull only wants to cut the household budgets of Australian families.

1.5 million families will be worse off.

Some families will be as much as $5,000 a year worse off.

1.5 million families will lose their end of year supplements – around 500,000 of these families are on household incomes of less than $50,000 a year.

It’s simply not fair to cut support to families already struggling on less than $50,000.

Malcolm Turnbull likes to say:

“Fairness is what it is all about. Fairness has got to be the key priority.”

Malcolm Turnbull, Guardian, 23 October 2016

But it’s yet another example of saying one thing and doing another. More than 130,000 single parents will also be affected by changes to Family Tax Benefit Part B and around 600,000 single parents will be impacted by cuts to end-of-year supplements.

Only Labor believes in fairness. Only Labor puts people first.

Labor will continue to oppose Mr Turnbull’s cuts to families when the legislation is debated in the Senate.
