Three Banyule veterans groups share in funding to expand services to local veterans
7 June 2010
Three local Banyule based veterans groups will share in almost $15,000 in funding from the Federal Government to support their member’s activities and boost the capacity of each organisation.
The funding has been made available through the Federal Government’s Veteran & Community Grants program, and provides funding support to local organisations dedicated to the health and well-being of Australia’s veterans.
Funding details:
1. Heidelberg Legacy Widows' Club (based at Heidelberg West RSL): $3,838 to fund bus trips to reduce social isolation for 60 of its members;
2. Heart to Heart Activities Group (based at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital): $8, 686 to fund bus trips to reduce social isolation for 70 of its members;
3. The Royal Australian Regiment Association (Greensborough): $2, 332 to purchase computer equipment to produce a newsletter, benefiting 800 members.
“Our local veteran community deserves to have the best support services available and I congratulate all three of organisations,”
“We know that there are very positive health impacts that come with increased social activity amongst our seniors and veterans. So, in that context, these grants have a great purpose,”
“These grants are also a very good opportunity for these organisations to expand their membership and explore new social activities.” Ms Macklin said.
