Supporting Successful Community Programs in Jagajaga
10 June 2008
The Australian Government has allocated almost $300,000 to fund family support programs such as I’m a Dad and ongoing counselling at the Children’s Protection Society (CPS) in West Heidelberg.
“Providing appropriate, timely and high quality support is essential to building strong families and enduring communities,” Ms Macklin said.
“The transition to parenthood can be a very challenging stage of life, and service such as the CPS play an important role by supporting people through this process”.
“This funding will allow the society to continue to provide successful programs such as ‘I’m a Dad’, as well funding ongoing counselling services”
Bernadette Burchell, CEO of the Children’s Protection Society, said the organisation was delighted with the funding extensions.
“With this funding we will be able to provide information to new dads in the antenatal classes at the Northern Hospital, develop new fathers’ support groups, and support culturally inclusive practice such as I’m an Aboriginal Dad, I’m a Somali Dad and I’m an Arabic Dad.” Ms Burchell said.
“We will also be able to explore the feasibility of extending the I’m a Dad program to the Mercy Hospital for Women”.
“Strong families are the cornerstone of our community. The Federal Government has committed itself to working with local communities and funding local programs so that families in our local community can be supported.” Ms Macklin said.
“I look forward to continue to work with CPS to help support Australian families build stronger relationships”.
