SINODINOS ADMITS FAMILY PAYMENTS CUTS LINKED TO CHILD CARE FOR “POLITICAL PURPOSES”

October 26, 2015

Liberal Senator Arthur Sinodinos last night admitted that Malcolm Turnbull’s cuts to Family Tax Benefits are linked to its child care package for “political purposes”.

Senator Sinodinos has finally admitted what Labor has been saying all along - the link between the Government’s cuts to Family Tax Benefits and its child care package was designed to blackmail the parliament into accepting a series of very harsh cuts.

Under questioning from Labor Senator Penny Wong during Senate Estimates, Senator Sinodinos blurted:

“They’re linked... for political purposes.”

SENATOR SINODINOS, SENATE ESTIMATES, 21 OCTOBER 2015

Malcolm Turnbull is just robbing Peter to pay Paul.

He’s stripping support away from one group of parents – including single parents and grandparent carers to pay for his childcare package.

Yesterday the Government claimed that families will be better off because of its childcare package - but no one has seen the legislation for the childcare package.

If the Government’s wants to discuss child care, they should release the legislation immediately, so Australian families can see the impacts.

It is clear that many families who will have their family payments cut will not see one cent of the child care money.
