SENIORS TO CAMPAIGN AGAINST LIBERAL/GREEN PENSION CUTS

June 18, 2015

National Seniors Australia has vowed to campaign against Tony Abbott and Richard Di Natale’s latest pension cuts, right up to the next election.

These cuts will leave 330,000 pensioners worse off in their first year.

Over the next ten years, more than a half of new retirees will be left worse off.

Some single pensioners will lose $8,000 and some couples will lose $14,000.

And it is clear that these pensioners are not all rich.

As National Seniors Australia Chief Executive Michael O’Neil said on the ABC’s 7.30 last night:

“The outcome is unfair for middle Australia”

MICHAEL O’NEIL – 7.30 – 17 JUNE 2015

He is right.

The Liberal/Greens deal is an attack on middle Australia.

This deal will sell out middle income retirees. And it is clear that many seniors are angry.

Last year, Labor stood alongside seniors and fought Tony Abbott’s cuts to pension indexation.

Today, we are once again standing alongside pensioners as they fight Tony Abbott and Richard Di Natale’s latest cut to the pension.

Only Labor will stand up for pensioners.

Only Labor will fight to protect the pension.
