SENATE COMMITTEE TO PROBE ABBOTT’S CUTS TO FAMILIES
June 24, 2015
Labor has today moved to establish a new Senate Select Committee Inquiry to scrutinise the Abbott Government’s unfair cuts to Australian families.
Australians will now have an opportunity to have their say about the Abbott Government’s cuts to family tax benefits, as well as proposed childcare reforms.
The Committee will visit communities around Australia to hear directly from families and the community organisations that represent them and learn how the Abbott Government’s cuts will affect them.
We already know that Tony Abbott wants to slash $8.5 billion from family tax benefits.
We know that one in four families that rely on child care will be left worse off as a result of proposed changes to the child care system.
We know that as a result of Tony Abbott’s budget a typical family on $65,000 will lose around $6,000 a year.
This inquiry will give the millions of Australians that will be impacted by these changes the chance to have their voices heard.
Labor will not stand idly by and let Tony Abbott take the knife to the household budgets of hardworking Australian families.
Labor will stand up for Australian families in the face of Tony Abbott’s cuts.
The Committee will be chaired by Senator Katy Gallagher and is due to report in October 2015.
