PORTER GETS IT WRONG ON FAMILY TAX BENEFITS

February 09, 2017

Christian Porter has got it wrong again.

This afternoon on Sky News Christian Porter put in another worst on ground performance.

Mr Porter was asked:

DAVID SPEERS: “You’re pointing to the fact that those on Family Tax Benefit A would get an extra $20 a fortnight under the changes you put forward but can I ask does that apply to all those receiving Family Tax Benefit A?”

PORTER: “It’s per child. So $20 per fortnight, per child.”

SPEERS: “For everyone getting Family Tax Benefit Part A, not just the maximum recipients?”

PORTER: “No, and that is one of the reasons why the overall savings that we are able to garner from changes to Family Tax Benefit have very significantly reduced…”

DAVID SPEERS: “So just to be clear if you are on the base rate rather than the maximum rate.”

PORTER: “It’s all families.”

DAVID SPEERS: “They all get $20 a fortnight?”

PORTER: “Yes.”

Christian Porter’s claim that all families receive the $20 a fortnight is wrong.

Families who receive the base rate of FTB-A will not get the $20 per fortnight.

For example a family with one child in primary school and income of $75,000 will lose their supplement without getting the increase.

That means they will be at least $726 worse off per child each year.

Either Christian Porter is either lying or he doesn’t understand his own policy.
