Odyssey House receives $2 million

10 September 2009

$2 million in federal funding to support over 70 jobs, 40 work experience positions and two traineeships through the construction of three residential family units and a Community Centre at Odyssey House in Lower Plenty.

The project has been delivered through the Australian Government’s $650 million                  Jobs Fund.

The project will allow Odyssey’s existing Family Program to be relocated with an expanded capacity to treat parents with drug and alcohol dependencies and mental illness whilst residing with their children.

Ms Macklin welcomed the funding news.

“This is a really important local infrastructure project for our area, bringing with it big community benefits,”

“I congratulate the entire Odyssey community in Lower Plenty. Odyssey has operated in Lower Plenty since 1980, on the site of a former Monastery built in 1952,”

“Odyssey offers a range of critical drug rehabilitation services across, helping their clients to the chance to tackle their drug problems and put their lives back together while staying in close contact with their family,”

“Not only does this project target disadvantaged clients, but and it also employs over 70 people directly with many more given crucial work experience during these tough times.”
Ms Macklin said.
