NEW REPORT FURTHER EVIDENCE TURNBULL MUST DROP HIS UNFAIR CUTS TO FAMILIES
April 17, 2018
A study released today by the University of New South Wales’s social policy research centre has confirmed what parents already know, this Turnbull Government has been underestimating the real cost of raising children.
The report found that raising two children costs a lower-income family $340 per week, including $77 for food, $65 for housing and $61 for schooling.
For a single 10 year old child to have a decent life, a lower income family need to find up to $203 a week, and families looking for work need to find up to $174 a week.
It’s time that the Turnbull Government dropped two unfair zombie measures to families in this year’s Budget.
First, Turnbull should drop his plan to axe the fortnightly Energy Supplement to 2 million Australians including vulnerable families on Newstart.
If Mr Turnbull gets his way someone on Newstart will lose around $220 a year.
Second, Turnbull should scrap his proposed cuts to Family Tax Benefits currently before the Parliament that would make around 100,000 Australian families worse off.
Australian families are doing it tough under the Turnbull Government - and lower income families are being stretched to breaking point.
It’s time for Turnbull to drop his unfair cuts to families for good.
