New website gives children the best head start

27 September 2008

Jenny Macklin MP, Member for Jagajaga, today welcomed the launch of mychild.gov.au, which is an interactive website for parents and carers, and encouraged community members to visit the site.

mychild.gov.au is a virtual children’s hub for parents and carers which provides access to important health, early learning, child care and parenting support information in one convenient location” Ms Macklin said.

“We all know how critical the early years are for children and this website will give parents and carers in our community the support they need to make informed choices that will lay the foundation for their child’s future.

“This website will be a first stop for both new and more experienced parents, and will provide new ideas and information in an easily accessible form.”

mychild.gov.au provides a searchable database of local child care centres including the services they provide and the fees they charge. The mychild.gov.au website will also provide local families with information about Government initiatives and options for child care assistance.

The new online portal is part of the Rudd Government’s $2.4 billion early childhood education and child care plan to ensure every Australian child gets the best start in life.

Providing greater information to parents is part of the Rudd Government’s comprehensive plan to deliver high quality, affordable and accessible child care for Australian children.
