NATIONAL SENIORS CONDEMN GREEN/LIBERAL PENSION CUT

National Seniors Australia – the fourth largest seniors’ organisation in the world – has condemned the Liberal/Green pension cuts, which passed the Senate last night.

According to CEO Michael O’Neil, the new Liberal/Green Coalition:

“has turned its back on middle Australia, with the passage of its $1 billion-a-year pension cuts through the senate last night”.

330,000 pensioners are now set to lose part or their entire pension.

Over the next ten years, around half of all new retirees will be affected.

Singles will lose as much as $8,000.

Couples will lose as much as $14,000.

And despite the Government’s spin, these pensioners are not all wealthy.

Like Labor, National Seniors understands that this cut is an attack on middle Australia.

In fact, independent modelling indicates that this cut will be felt hardest by people living on below average incomes.

Some pensioners earning as little as $15,000 a year are set to lose.

The Liberals, the Nationals and the Greens have teamed up to cut the pension.

Only Labor stood up for the pension.

Only Labor will stand up for pensioners.
