MORRISON REVEALS BACKBENCH REVOLT ON CUTS TO FAMILY TAX BENEFITS

May 28, 2015

Scott Morrison today revealed that he faces a backbench revolt on his cuts to Family Tax Benefits.

Mr Morrison was asked today:

“Some of your own backbenchers have concerns with the Family Tax Benefit B changes have you met with them? And have you broached any compromise?”

Morrison replied:

“I have met with them and the measures on Family Tax Benefits were in last year’s Budget, not this year’s Budget, and they’ve been voted for by Government members.”

But Mr Morrison failed to mention that Coalition Senators haven’t voted on Tony Abbott’s cuts to Family Tax Benefits.

In fact Nationals Senators wrote an opinion piece in April this year calling on the Government to reverse its position on cuts to Family Tax Benefits.

Labor wrote to Nationals members earlier this week urging them to stand up for families and vote against the Government’s unfair cuts to family payments.

Scott Morrison has learned nothing. Australians don’t want these cuts to families.

Now he’s admitted his own backbench don’t want his unfair cuts to Family Tax Benefits.
