MORRISON DISHONEST ON NDIS FUNDING

Minister for Social Services, Scott Morrison today continued his dishonest campaign on the funding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

During Question Time Mr Morrison wrongly called into question the financial sustainability of the NDIS.

The NDIS is fully funded into the future.

In the 2013-14 Budget, Labor very clearly identified exactly how the NDIS would be funded.

Labor introduced a 0.5 per cent increase in the Medicare levy that was supported by the then Liberal Opposition.

Labor also made responsible budget savings to pay for the NDIS.

This included $6.5 billion in savings by means testing the Private Health Insurance Rebate.

As well as $6 billion in reforms to retirement incomes, and more than $20 billion in other long term, structural savings, including reforms to tax concessions for fringe benefits.

The NDIS is not an extravagant or unaffordable scheme – it is a scheme that was designed to improve the lives of people with disability.

Labor understands that people with disability, their families and carers deserve funding certainty on the NDIS.

That’s precisely why Labor made sure the NDIS is properly funded.

Any claim by Mr Morrison that the NDIS isn’t fully funded is simply dishonest.
