Tony Abbott has failed to tell families in Leichhardt that he plans to cut as much as $6,000 from their incomes during his visit to Cairns today.


Mr Abbott’s cuts to family payments will leave around 14,000 families in Leichhardt receiving Family Tax Benefit Part B as much as $6,000 a year worse off.


If Tony Abbott gets his way single income families in Leichhardt will be kicked off Family Tax Benefit Part B when their youngest child turns six.


Tony Abbott’s claims that he wants to “help parents with the challenges of having a family” yet he routinely fails to tell families he wants to make savage cuts to family payments.  


Families know Mr Abbott’s new focus on families is all about saving his leadership. It has nothing to do with supporting parents.


Families know that Mr Abbott can’t be trusted when it comes to standing up for families.


If Mr Abbott truly cared about families he would drop his unfair cuts to Family Payments in next Tuesday’s Budget.


Failure to do so shows just how two-faced Tony Abbott really is.
