Labor welcomes the Federal Court of Australia's decision on a class action on payment to workers at Australian Disability Enterprises.
The Court's decision is a big relief for around 10,000 workers with intellectual disabilities across Australia.
These workers will now be paid $100 million compensation and back pay for the work they did using the Business Services Wage Assessment Tool Australia’s (BSWAT), which was found to be discriminatory in 2012.
Eligible workers will have to register before the end of April 2017 to be assessed for any back pay and can phone the BSWAT hotline on 1800 880 052 or email the Department of Social Services at email@example.com
Workers with disability deserve to get a fair days pay for a fair days work.
Labor hopes that the Fair Work Commission continues to work with unions, employers and the National Disability Service to determine appropriate rates of pay for people working in Australian Disability Enterprises.
