LABOR PROTECTS AUSTRALIANS AGAINST ABBOTT’S UNFAIR BUDGET, VOWS TO CONTINUE FIGHT

The Abbott Government’s unfair Budget is in complete chaos today, with the Labor Party forcing them into a humiliating back down on their cruel Budget measures.

Today Labor stood up for families, pensioners and young people and stood against cuts to the pension, unfair cuts to family payments and cuts to support for job seekers.

More than four months after handing down the worst Budget in living memory, Labor today forced the Government to abandon legislation that was before the senate.

This was hugely embarrassing for the Government, and destroys the credibility of their Prime Minister and Treasurer.

We’ve won the fight today, but the battle isn’t over.

In an extraordinarily arrogant move, the Government also re-introduced their savage Budget cuts into the Parliament in a number of separate bills.

Tony Abbott still wants to cut the pension.

He still wants to slash support for struggling families.

He still wants to leave unemployed young people with absolutely nothing to live on for six months.

He is still committed to his cruel cuts and his broken promises.

Tony Abbott isn’t listening. Australians don’t support these cruel cuts, and Labor will never allow them.

Every day until the next election, Labor will fight this bad Budget. We won’t let Tony Abbott get away with his broken promises.
