JOE HOCKEY INSULTS PENSIONERS WITH “BEST FRIEND” CLAIM
June 19, 2014
Treasurer Joe Hockey insulted Australian pensioners today in Question Time in a humiliating and pathetic defence of the Abbott Government’s cuts to pensions.
Joe Hockey claimed that:
“We are the best friends Australian pensioners have ever had.”
JOE HOCKEY, HANSARD, 19 JUNE 2014
The Government’s own budget papers show Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey are cutting pensions by around $450 million.
Australian pensioners understand their pension is being cut by Tony Abbott.
That’s why pensioners and seniors are holding rallies against Tony Abbott’s cuts to pensions, including at Perth Town Hall tomorrow between 10am and Midday.
If Joe Hockey really thinks the Abbott Government is the “best friends Australian pensioners have ever had” he should explain to pensioners at Perth Town Hall tomorrow why he is cutting pension indexation by around $450 million.
He should explain to them why he is cutting funding for concessions to pensioners and seniors that help pay for utility bills and council rates.
Just two weeks ago, Assistant Minister, Senator Fifield told Senate Estimates that the decision to cut the indexation of the pension, was:
“put in place in an effort to slow the rate of (pension) increase.”
SENATOR FIFIELD, HANSARD, 4 JUNE 2014
According to the Australian Council of Social Services (ACOSS) this will mean pensioners will be around $80 a week worse off within ten years.
Pensioners will be worse off under the Abbott Government, Mr Hockey shouldn’t add to their pain by arrogantly claiming to be their best friend.
With friends like Joe Hockey Australian pensioners don’t need enemies.
