HOCKEY REFUSES TO OUTLINE COSTS OF PAID PARENTAL LEAVE

Joe Hockey has today refused to answer a direct question on the real cost of Tony Abbott’s signature Paid Parental Leave Scheme.

This follows repeated questioning of Eric Abetz in the Senate yesterday, who was asked four times about the costs of the scheme, and four times refused to answer.

Either the Government doesn’t know the costs of this Scheme, or they are deliberately trying to hide it.

Just last week the Parliamentary Budget Office confirmed that over the next ten years, the Prime Minister’s Paid Parental Leave Scheme will cost $62 billion.

It also confirms that “spending on the paid parental leave scheme is projected to grow in real terms by 12.0 per cent annually over the medium term”.

This means that Tony Abbott’s non-means tested paid parental leave scheme will be the fastest growing area of government expenditure.
