HOCKEY MUST RULE OUT FURTHER CUTS TO VULNERABLE AUSTRALIANS

Treasurer Joe Hockey must immediately rule out more cuts to vulnerable Australians following the Treasurer’s comments today that he is searching for further cuts in order to salvage his shambolic Budget.

Joe Hockey’s arrogant threats to hurt more vulnerable Australians won’t hide the fact that he has failed to get his unfair Budget through the Parliament.

Australian families, pensioners, young people and people with disability shouldn’t be forced to pay for this Treasurer’s incompetence.

Vulnerable Australians are already under siege from a Government that wants to cut family benefits, cut the pension, throw young people off income support and cut the Disability Support Pension.

What further shocks does this inept Treasurer have in store for vulnerable Australians?

Now, if the Senate chooses to block savings initiatives, then we need to look at other savings initiatives that may not require legislation and I would ask the Greens and the Labor Party who between them hold 35 votes on the floor of the Senate - to understand that there are alternatives for a Government.

JOE HOCKEY – AM PROGRAM – 16 JULY 2014

Just because the Abbott Government’s Budget is in complete disarray does not give it a license to hit some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

Labor will continue to fight any unfair moves by the Abbott Government that target Australian families, pensioners, young job seekers and people with disability.
