GOVERNMENT TO CUT HOME ENERGY SAVER SCHEME

Low income households will miss out on important financial management and energy efficiency advice as the Government moves to cut the Home Energy Saver Scheme.

Without warning, the Government has written to community organisations across Australia indicating that their funding for the scheme will be cut in June 2014.

This is more bad news for low income families.

It will also hurt the community organisations who have been contracted to deliver the scheme until 2015.

The Government’s decision means those organisations will have no option but to end employees’ contracts a year early.

The Home Energy Saver Scheme helps low income households make the switch to more energy efficient household appliances and household products, like heating and cooling systems.

By making this switch, low-income families can make significant savings in the long term. These savings help those families with everyday cost of living pressures.

The Government’s moves to scrap the scheme once again show that low income Australians will be the hardest hit by Tony Abbott’s cruel cuts.

We now have a growing list of Government cuts to support for low income families. This latest round follows moves to scrap the SchoolKids Bonus, the Low Income Support Bonus and the Low-Income Superannuation Contribution.
