Four more `Shovel Ready' Projects open across Banyule

22 March 2010

The Rudd Government will provide $227,000 to Banyule Council to commence four `shovel ready’ local infrastructure projects, delivered as part of the Economic Stimulus Plan to support jobs across our local community.

Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government said that the new funding would help upgrade local sporting facilities and park and recreation areas in the Macleod, Heidelberg and Montmorency communities, including:

·         $100,000 Upgrades at Banyule Netball Stadium in Macleod including floor resurfacing, painting and line marking;
·         $50,000 Replacement of the footbridge, and landscaping works at Heidelberg Park;
·         $15,000 Construction of a shelter at Petrie Park in Montmorency
·         $62,000 Upgrade of facilities at the Heidelberg Football Club including a viewing platform and additional amenities

Jenny Macklin, Member for Jagajaga said the four projects in Banyule are expected to support around 17 jobs during construction.

“This funding is being delivered to Banyule City Council through Round Two of the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP),”

“These four projects will generate work for up to 17 people in our local community, as well as generate activity in our local economy as construction work on each progresses,”

“Some of our really important community facilities are being revitalised in this announcement,”

“This includes facilities that are home to some of this area’s great clubs and community groups, ”

“Banyule Council have identified each of these projects as local community priorities, and that is a very important aspect of this program.” Ms Macklin said.

Mr Albanese said that in just over a year, the RLCIP had delivered $1 billion to build and renew community facilities across Australia, making it the largest single investment in local infrastructure in the nation’s history.

“Across the country the RLCIP is funding sporting fields, swimming pools, libraries, community halls, water and energy saving facilities and other local projects.” Mr Albanese concluded.
