First facilities funded under school modernisation program opens at St Bernadette’s Primary School

21 April 2010

The St Bernadette’s Primary School community in Ivanhoe have officially opened their Senior Learning Centre and School Hall, built as part of the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER).

St Bernadette’s Primary received $2.125 million under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century and National School Pride components of the BER Program.

Ms Macklin has congratulated school Principal Kathy Lowe and the entire St Bernadette’s school community.

“This is an historic occasion for St Bernadette’s Primary and for education across our local community,”

“This is the very first project to officially open through the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution Program in our electorate of Jagajaga and features a Seniors Learning Centre and School Hall,”

“Now that these facilities have opened, teachers and students at this school will be teaching and learning with the very best 21st century facilities,”

“There is of course a very strong link between having great facilities and students and teachers being able to achieve their very best,”

“And it is also really fantastic to see the sheer excitement and positive impact that these facilities have had on the school community at St Bernadette’s,”

“Back In 2001, St Bernadette’s Primary marked 50 years of educating students in the Ivanhoe area by opening new buildings and facilities at the time,”

“And now, almost a decade later, they have made history once more, and I congratulate everyone that has supported this project through to completion”. Ms Macklin said.

BER is a key element of the Rudd Government’s $42 billion Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan to support jobs, stimulate local economies and invest in important infrastructure for the long-term.
