Clients of Greensborough Family Relationship Centre to gain better access to legal assistance
11 December 2009
Jenny has announced that clients of the Greensborough Family Relationship Centre will have better access to early legal assistance and information through a new pilot program.
The pilot program will enable clients of the Greensborough Family Relationship Centre to access early and targeted legal information and advice from Whittlesea Community Legal Centre.
The pilot will commence at the end of 2009 for a 12 month period and will aim to develop greater collaboration between local Family Relationship Centres and nearby legal assistance services.
The Greensborough Family Relationship Centre is managed by a longstanding collaboration between Relationships Australia, Centacare Catholic Family Services and Berry Street Victoria.
“When local families are working through a separation and an extremely difficult time in their lives, easier access to early legal advice and information is critical,” Ms Macklin said.
“A greater understanding of the family law system, and their options, will help separating families to resolve their disputes more effectively and possibly avoid the need to go to court,”
“This pilot program will help to build better partnerships and greater collaboration between Family Relationship Centres and nearby legal assistance services.” Ms Macklin said.
The range of services or activities to be provided through the pilot includes:
- Legal information and education to Family Relationship Centre clients on family law;
- Individual legal advice for Family Relationship Centre clients;
- Legal assistance before, during and following family dispute resolution as recommended by Family Relationship Centres;
- Assistance with drafting parenting agreements and consent orders; and
- Training and professional development of staff in centres.
