AUSTRALIAN FAMILIES KEPT GUESSING ON THE GOVERNMENT’S CHILD CARE GAMES
April 21, 2015
Scott Morrison continues to make Australian families play a guessing game of what is happening with the Government’s child care package, with his latest thought-bubble piece confirming a trial of Government subsidies for nannies will be included.
This is another detail-free half-policy from Scott Morrison – we don’t know how much it will cost, who will be involved, or what any of the details are at all.
Judging from the Government’s failure to provide any information on the impacts of this proposal, the Government doesn’t know either.
Labor has requested detailed economic modelling on the Government's child care package, so far this has not been provided. We will not be in a position to properly consider the Government's proposals unless we have an accurate understanding of the implications for families and children, particularly vulnerable families – and time is running out before the Budget.
Australian families are anxious to find out what the child care package means for them – and who will be worse off under this Government.
If Scott Morrison is serious about having a bipartisan conversation on child care he needs to show exactly who will be affected by his proposed reforms. Labor will not be providing the Government with a blank cheque.
Time is ticking for Scott Morrison to stop playing games and start providing answers.
