ANGLICARE REPORT SHOWS WHY TURNBULL MUST DROP CUTS TO FAMILIES AND YOUNG JOBSEEKERS

Today’s report by Anglicare on the incidence of poverty amongst people living on income support shows just how important it is that the Abbott-Turnbull Government’s cuts to Family Tax Benefits currently before the Parliament are never made law.

Labor has called on Malcolm Turnbull to use Anti-Poverty Week to drop these cuts forever.

If these cuts get through the Parliament, low income families will be pushed into further poverty and hardship. They must be dropped.

According to the new report almost 70 percent of welfare recipients are living below the poverty line.

Every single one of these families will have money taken off them if the cuts to Family Tax Benefits are made law.

Single income families will lose $3,000 when their youngest child turns six.

And some families could be left as much as $6,000 worse off because of cuts currently before the parliament.

Family Tax Benefits are designed to help families with the cost of raising children.

Cutting FTB means less support for families to ensure kids have a proper meal each day, access to school uniforms and text books.

Labor renews its calls on the Government to drop these cuts and take them out of the Parliament and out of the Budget.
