ABBOTT’S AXE SET TO FALL ON SENIORS SUPPLEMENT

November 18, 2014

Today the Abbott Government will introduce legislation into the Senate to axe the Seniors Supplement, a payment of nearly $900 paid to Commonwealth Seniors Health Card holders.

Axing the Seniors Supplement will mean that around 290,000 Australian seniors will be around $900 worse off each year because of Tony Abbott’s unfair Budget.

This is an outrageous betrayal of Australian seniors by Tony Abbott.

Whether you’re a self-funded retiree or a pensioner, Tony Abbott’s unfair cuts will hurt.

Before the election Tony Abbott never said a word about taking away nearly $900 a year from Australian seniors.

But this measure alone will rip around $1 billion from the pockets of Australian self-funded retirees.

For years Tony Abbott and the Liberal Party have pretended to be the best friend of Australian seniors, yet when they get into office they do everything they can to punish older Australians.

Whether it’s cutting the indexation of the Age Pension, axing important concessions for pensioners and seniors or introducing a GP tax – it’s clear seniors are being targeted by the Abbott Government.

Labor understands that Australian seniors have worked hard all their lives and saved for their retirement.

Seniors don’t deserve to have their pockets raided by Tony Abbott in their retirement.

Labor will stand up for Australian seniors and pensioners by opposing the Abbott Government’s savage Budget cuts.
