ABBOTT MUST COME CLEAN ON PLANS FOR THE NDIS

December 17, 2013

Treasurer Joe Hockey today said that the Abbott Government is examining ways of making the National Disability Insurance Scheme more “cost effective and efficient

This is exactly what the Abbott Government said about the National Broadband Network, before breaking their election promise last week.

Speaking at the National Press Club today, the Finance Minister indicated that conversations had already begun with the States to re-examine the NDIS.

This follows an announcement earlier this week that the Government had re-characterised the four ‘launch sites’ as ‘trial sites’.

Mr Abbott needs to come clean with the Australian people, outline what further changes they are planning and confirm that they will not

  • cut funding;

  • cap support; or

  • slow the rollout of the full NDIS.

It is clear that the Abbott Government is preparing the Australian people for a round of brutal cuts in next year’s budget.

People with disability deserve to know that the NDIS will not be subjected to these cuts.

Right now, people with disability across the country are getting better care and support because of the NDIS, the biggest social reform in a generation.

Labor will fight tooth and nail to ensure that the Government delivers the NDIS it promised to deliver, in full and on time.
