ABBOTT MUST COME CLEAN ON CUTS TO FAMILIES
April 17, 2014
Reports in today’s Australian Financial Review indicate that support for ordinary Australian families is set to be the next big cut in the upcoming May Budget, with Government sources reportedly saying we ‘can’t afford’ the Family Tax Benefit Part B payment (Abbott Says Taxes Cut ‘Over Time’ as Higher Taxes Loom in Budget).
If this is the case, the Prime Minister should immediately explain why he can afford a rolled-gold $5.5 billion Paid Parental Leave Scheme, but not payments to single income families.
This is just another example of how twisted the Prime Minister’s priorities are.
We know that the Government is planning to cut the Age Pension and the Disability Support Pension in this year’s Budget.
The Government has already moved to scrap the Schoolkids Bonus and the Income Support Bonus.
And now Family Tax Benefits look set to get the chop.
It seems that there is no limit to how low this government will go in its desperate search for savage cuts, all so it can pay $75,000 to wealthy women to have a baby.
The Prime Minister should immediately explain to families, age pensioners and people on the disability support pension how much worse off they will be as a result of the Government’s savage cuts.
