ABBOTT JUSTIFIES CUTS TO GRANDMOTHER AS “TRYING TO GET PEOPLE INTO WORK”

Tony Abbott has hit a new low today, trying to justify a $100 a fortnight cut to a grandparent carer on the basis that the cut was trying to get people into work.

Asked today in Question Time why the Prime Minister was cutting support to 60 year old Teresa Sutton, a grandmother who is raising her 12 and 14 year old grandchildren, Tony Abbott said:

“It is very important we prioritise our spending to trying to get people into work”

TONY ABBOTT – QUESTION TIME – 28 MAY 2015

Of course, for grandparents like Teresa, work is not an option. She is busy raising two children by herself.

It is clear that Tony Abbott has no idea how much these cuts will hurt people like Teresa.

Tony Abbott wants to cut around $3,000 a year from her income.

This Prime Minister has no shame.

And it is not just people like Teresa who will suffer.

Low and middle income families will lose thousands of dollars because of these cuts.

A single income family on $65,000 a year is set to lose $6,000 because of Tony Abbott’s cuts.

Australian’s don’t want to live in a country that cuts support to grandparent carers like Teresa.

They don’t want these cuts. Tony Abbott should drop them immediately.
