ABBOTT GOVERNMENT CALLED OUT ON SHAM PAID PARENTAL LEAVE CONSULTATION
June 16, 2014
The Abbott Government’s supposed consultation with the National Farmer’s Federation and the Country Women’s Association on its paid parental leave scheme has been exposed as a complete sham.
The damaging report in today’s Fairfax papers are another embarrassing blow for the Prime Minister and his signature paid parental leave scheme.
As late as last week Deputy Prime Minister, Warren Truss claimed that the final shape of the Government’s controversial scheme hadn’t been finalised because the Government was “talking with the National Farmers’ Federation and rural women’s groups”.
But according to reports in Fairfax media, the National Farmer’s Federation have never been consulted on Tony Abbott’s paid parental leave.
The Country Women’s Association President, Noela MacLeod said: “Warren Truss certainly didn’t speak to us”.
This just confirms the Abbott Government is a complete shambles on paid parental leave.
They are making up consultations with stakeholders to try and mask the deep divisions in the Coalition.
The time has come for Tony Abbott to accept that nobody supports his unfair and unaffordable paid parental leave scheme.
He must immediately abandon his $20 billion scheme and accept that Labor’s existing paid parental leave scheme works well and has widespread support, including from the business community.
