Tony Abbott’s Budget of broken promises is cutting $1.3 billion in support and concessions for vital services such as public transport, electricity and water bills.

Because of Tony Abbott, the National Partnership Agreement on Certain Concessions for Pensioners and Seniors Card Holders will be axed from 1 July this year. The cuts will start in just 42 days.

Either the states will have to pick up the bill, or pensioners will go without important discounts for essential services.

Tony Abbott is again using tricky and deceptive language to try and hide the timing and impact of his cruel and callous Budget cuts, by suggesting that the states will not be impacted for another three years.

Just like he lied before the election, he is lying to pensioners after the election. These cuts will hit pensioners from July, not in three years like the Prime Minister says.

Tony Abbott unilaterally abolished the Agreement in last week’s Budget, without any warning to his Liberal and Labor state and territory colleagues.

This is an additional blow to pensioners, who are also going to have their pensions cut because of Tony Abbott, as well as being slugged with new taxes on fuel and GP visits.

Tony Abbott’s first Budget is an unprecedented attack on the standard of living of Australia’s 3.2 million pensioners, and a complete betrayal of every one of them.

Before the election, Tony Abbott promised:

“No cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to the ABC or SBS.”

Tony Abbott has broken this promise and betrayed Australian pensioners. And instead of owning up to his lies, he is continuing to try and deceive them.

Tony Abbott cannot be trusted.
