A healthy start for Jagajaga kids!

12 August 2008

Jenny Macklin MP, Member of Jagajaga, today encouraged local parents to take advantage of the Healthy Kids Check to make sure their kids are fit, healthy and ready to start school.

The Healthy Kids Check is a basic health examination delivered by GPs and practice nurses to four year old children to evaluate their general health and wellbeing. The check will include things such as a child’s eyesight, hearing, height, and weight.

‘This simple health check will help parents learn about any health needs their children may have before they start school’ Ms Macklin said.

‘We know that children can’t learn well if they are unable to hear or see well whilst at school,

‘This program will help recognise problems before they become too serious, and will provide parents with an opportunity to learn more about how to be proactive in maintaining their children’s health’.

The Healthy Kids Check will take place at the same time as the four year old immunisation.

The health check is accompanied by new guide for parents and children called Get Set 4 Life – Habits for Healthy Kids.

‘If parents would like any information about this program, or any other issue of concern, I encourage them to get in touch with my office on 9459 1411.’ Ms Macklin said.
