TURNBULL IS JUST LIKE TONY WHEN IT COMES TO HURTING FAMILIES

December 15, 2015

Malcolm Turnbull’s mini-budget has locked in Tony Abbott’s unfair measures that will hurt families, young people and older Australians.

Today’s MYEFO has locked in:

  • Cuts to family payments that will leave 1.6 million families as much as $5,000 a year worse off;

  • Cuts to Newstart that will leave young jobseekers with no income support for a month;

  • Cuts to the pension that will leave 330,000 pensioners worse off and increase the pension age to 70; and

  • Cuts to paid parental leave for thousands of new parents.

These cuts will increase the cost of living for millions of Australians.

If Malcolm Turnbull was truly different from Tony Abbott, he would have realised these cuts were unfair and dropped them from his mini-budget.

Keeping them in the Budget shows that when it comes to hurting families, nothing has changed.

The changes to Paid Parental Leave in MYEFO show that Turnbull and Morrison are just as mean and tricky as Abbott and Hockey.

The Government is claiming to have replaced the measure that cut Paid Parental Leave for 80,000 new parents and labelled them ‘double-dippers’.

Despite promising new leadership, Malcolm Turnbull’s cuts to Paid Parental Leave are almost exactly the same, and will force some parents to spend less time with their newborn babies in those precious early months.

Just like Tony Abbott, Malcolm Turnbull is cutting the budgets of families, pensioners and young people. And just like Tony Abbott, Malcolm Turnbull wants to hit every Australian family with a higher GST.

Under the Liberals, Australian families are worse off.
