460,000 REASONS TONY ABBOTT MUST DELIVER THE NDIS ON TIME AND IN FULL
August 22, 2015
There are 460,000 reasons why Tony Abbott must deliver the National Disability Insurance Scheme on time and in full, as promised.
There are 460,000 people with disability who will benefit from the NDIS when fully rolled out.
People with disability are worried and uncertain about the future following reports throughout the week in the Australian Financial Review that the Government is looking to delay the NDIS.
And Mitch Fifield’s continued refusal to commit rolling the NDIS out in full and on time isn’t helping.
Australians with disability, their carers and families have waited their whole lives for the NDIS.
They shouldn’t have to wait any longer.
Before the election, Tony Abbott promised he would deliver the NDIS in full and on time.
Any cuts or delays to the full rollout of the NDIS would see Tony Abbott break a very clear promise to Australians with disability, their families and carers.
There is no reason for a delay.
In government Labor fully funded the NDIS.
The recent National Disability Insurance Agency’s Quarterly Report on the Sustainability of the National Disability Insurance Scheme shows it is delivering in trial sites on time and on budget.
Already, more than 17,300 Australians with disability are getting the support they need because of the NDIS.
Other Australians with disability, their carers and families should not have to continue to wait.
Labor calls on the Government to finalise the bilateral plans with the states and the Northern Territory on the transition to full roll out of the NDIS to end the uncertainty.
Tony Abbott promised these bilateral agreements would be signed by the end of August to ensure Australians with disability across the nation can access the benefits of the scheme.
Labor will continue to stand up for Australians with disability, their carers and families, making sure they get the opportunities and support they need.
