30 Banyule groups recieve Volunteers Grants

Under the program, grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are provided to non-profit organisations to purchase small equipment items to assist their volunteers and contribute to reimbursing fuel costs incurred by volunteers in carrying out their voluntary work.

The Friends of Salt Creek in Rosanna, the 1^st West Heidelberg Scout Group, North East Radio Group in Montmorency and the Heidelberg Primary School Parents and Friends Association were some of the Banyule organisations that shared in the funding announcement (full details overleaf).

Ms Macklin joined Mr Joce Forsyth of the Friends of Salt Creek at Rosanna Parklands to welcome the funding today.

The group will be using their funding to purchase GPS transceivers, land care equipment and an outdoor storage shed.

“This is terrific news for these Banyule organisations and for their volunteers that drive their day-to-day activities,” Ms Macklin said.

“Every day, Banyule volunteers are out in our local community, working tirelessly to help their organisation,”

“From helping people build skills in their favourite hobby, or helping the elderly, the sick or those who may have hit hard times,”

 “The Federal Government values the enormous contribution volunteers make in our community and this funding will ease the financial pressure on non-profit organisations and volunteers.” Ms Macklin said.
